We are delighted to announce that three Icelandic clinics joined our Altano community, each bringing its own unique expertise and story.
Dýraspítalinn í Lögmannshlíð:
For over 30 years, the Dýraspítalinn í Lögmannshlíð in Akureyri has been a trusted home for animals. Founded in 1992 by Elfa Ágústsdóttir and her husband Höskuldur Jónsson, the hospital is now proudly led by Elfa and Gestur Páll Júlíusson. The newly renovated 300 m² facility in the stable district above Akureyri is the largest animal hospital in North Iceland, well-equipped with IDEXX blood analyzers, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and operating rooms for both pets and horses.
Dýraspítalinn í Lögmannshlíð cares for pets, horses, and sheep at the hospital and also travels to farms for cattle, horses, and sheep, building close relationships with their owners and farmers along the way. Spring is always a lively time with sheep C-sections, while daily routines include dental care for horses and pregnancy checks for cows. The clinic places great importance on good communication with farmers, professional service, and being well-equipped to care for large animals.
Dýralæknaþjónustan í Spretti

Founded in 2003 by Björgvin Thorisson, the team combines deep veterinary expertise with a passion for Icelandic horses. They provide high-quality veterinary services, consulting, and tailored care for each animal’s unique needs — both at the clinic and through mobile services directly at stables and farms.

Today, the dedicated team includes three skilled veterinarians: Björgvin Thorisson, Lisa Salden, and Sólrún Einarsdóttir — as well as their loyal Border Collie, Emma, who is always by their side. Their mission is to promote excellence in equine health, combining modern veterinary medicine with Icelandic tradition and a deep respect for the horse.
