Baker McVeigh, a world-renowned and respected equine veterinary practice, is now part of our Altano Group. This valuable partnership strengthens our commitment to excellence in equine medicine and expands our network with three excellent locations in the UK.
Baker McVeigh equine practices were founded by Dr. Brian Baker in 1963, in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal, in Summerveld. With the addition of John McVeigh in 1990, the practice adopted a groundbreaking, preventative approach that has since attracted an esteemed international clientele. Today, Baker McVeigh offers comprehensive equine healthcare, including advanced hospital facilities, ambulatory services and consulting services across eight countries daily.

Baker McVeigh – Lambourn:
In the heart of “the Valley of the Racehorse” lies the pristine grounds of Upshire Farm, the home of the renowned Baker McVeigh Lambourn equine practice. This esteemed practice offers comprehensive ambulatory services, featuring a fully equipped mobile unit that includes advanced technologies such as digital radiography, ultrasound, and endoscopy. The state-of-the-art training facility is second to none, boasting an impressive 14 miles of both turf and artificial gallops, providing an ideal environment for racehorse training and treatment.
Baker McVeigh – Newmarket:
Established in 2006, the Newmarket practice serves as a central hub for Baker McVeigh’s UK operations and international expansion. Located in the heart of Newmarket, the practice focuses on all aspects of sports and performance horse work. Its growing presence in the sport horse sector has cemented its reputation for excellence.
Baker McVeigh – Yorkshire:
Baker McVeigh & Abbott was established in Malton on St. Paddy’s Day 2014. In March 2023, the practice expanded its presence in Yorkshire with a permanent base in Middleham. They provide comprehensive services across the region, supporting prestigious race yards as well as horses in all disciplines, from leisure riding to high-level competition.
